I've been a Swensons fan for as long as I can remember! Growing up with this drive-in has been such a treat, and it's a tradition I don't see ending anytime soon. Their burgers are incredible--perfect meat-to-bun ratio and just a hint of sweetness that sets them apart. My go-to order is a cheeseburger, paired with either crispy tots or onion rings. Honestly, all the sides are great, especially when dipped in their homemade ranch. Don't skip the milkshakes! The grape flavor is my personal favorite--it's so unique and delicious. I'd recommend calling ahead or placing an order online to save time, as it can get pretty busy. Plus, they've got a solid variety of menu options beyond burgers, which is always a bonus.

The staff is incredible as is the food! I visited/ate 4 times in three days...and I may be back later today! Thanks for keeping it true to how I remember it from 40 years ago! And a shout out to Gabbie! I highly recommend staying to eat so that you can appreciate how hard they all work! Seems like a great, fun place to work .

So the last time I reviewed this place, Metro Burger was still a thing. So perhaps it's the right time to revisit the institution. In the past year or so I've heard a lot of grumbling that the burger portions have shrank and that venture capitalists are hell-bent on making this the In-N-Out of the Midwest. I am not by nature a gatekeeper, but in my humble opinion, Indiana has done nothing to deserve a Swensons location. I've heard that the Columbus locations are not up to par, but I've never personally been to attest to that. Skeptical as I might be of the "vision" for Swensons, the Cuyahoga Falls Ave location is largely unchanged. This past weekend, my partner and I made identical orders: plain double cheeseburger, potato teezers, a regular california*, and ranch. Funnily enough, they always had top tier Ranch, but on this most recent visit, it was actually Swensons branded. As I wrote, one of the main complaints is that the burgers got smaller, and while I do think that's true, I also don't care. I guess I'm not a size queen. If I wanted a thick-ass burger (for lack of a better term), there are other places to go for that. The sweeter patties only really work because they're smaller and thin. Otherwise, it would be too much. I'm kind of over the Galley Boy at this point; it's fine, but if I'm going to add anything to my sandwich, it's got to be the coney sauce. Try it on the grilled cheese and thank me later. Some other menu "hacks": cajun seasoning on everything, broken onion rings (basically onion petals), and you can ask for items "well done." The crispy sides are always elite. "There are fries--and then the are FRIES," my dad once said with satisfaction about Swensons' spuds. The fried mushrooms and zucchini are our favorites. The California keeps showing up at cocktail bars across Akron, and it's going to be my signature drink when I get married in November. While we won't have the styrofoam cups or the pebbled ice, it will still be a slight upgrade from what we usually do: put an airplane bottle of tito's right in the cup.

Wow! Swensons is totally worth a stop and is a place out of time. Love that! I have to say I wasn't thrilled with the signature Galley Boy, but that is more about personal flavor preferences. The BBQ sauce is quite sweet, and I prefer more unapologetically savory burgers, but I will make adjustments to future orders. While not loving the star attraction is mildly disappointing, I'm happy to keep returning to dial in my perfect order. Those potato things definitely will make another appearance in my life. They were delightful. I even enjoyed them the Ohio way, dipped in ranch dressing. Please just don't tell my friends in Buffalo. They get as grumpy about ranch as Chicagoans do about ketchup. But I digress. The shakes? I'm still not convinced. It was fine. Again, a little on the sweet side for my taste. But I can absolutely give a burger place five stars even if they don't have perfect shakes. The service was outstanding! As first timers, the entire process was patiently explained to us. The team moves super fast. Urgency is a hallmark of great service, and Swensons had that in spades. Even the bathrooms were clean and tidy. Looking forward to future trips, and upgrading Swensons to five stars once I can build a burger that is worthy of a rave. I suspect that one such burger exists, and I can't wait to eat it!

If you ever find yourself in Ohio, add Swensons Drive-in to the list of spots to check out! They've been in business for 88 years! So glad we stumbled on this cool Drive In while taking my son to visit colleges. Pull up in a stall and when you're ready to order turn on your heads lights in a few seconds a very energetic friendly server will be there to assist you with your order. When I say energetic that's an understatement these guys were sprinting from car to car and back and forth with food! I've never seen anything like it! They will be back with your food and you can eat in your vehicle or take out. When you're done eating turn on the head light and they'll pick up your rubbish and collect your payment. YES I couldn't believe it either they must trust their patrons that much that they give you your food first and collect payment when you're done?!? I gave them a few dollars as tip just because I know they work very hard and were so friendly! BUt now the food! We had to try their classic Galley Boy $4.15 double cheeseburger patties with 2 of their signature sauces. They grind their own beef and make their own buns. Side of Onion rings $2.90 and chocolate peanut butter milkshake $3.85. I couldn't believe the most expensive item on the menu is a shrimp dinner for $8.45 (dozen crispy fried shrimp and cocktail sauce includes toasted roll, fries and coleslaw). The prices are so reasonable, service was excellent and did I mention the Galley burger was excellent smash burger style not too thick, onion rings crispy delicious and milkshake fabulously thick and tasty?!? Awesome Ohio treasure locations in Cincinnatti, Columbus, Cleveland and Akron.
